More than 1,000 pesticides are used on food worldwide. Pesticides are potentially toxic to humans and can cause adverse health effects. You’ve probably already tried other methods of cleaning your fruit and vegetables, but often it just comes down to rinsing them under tap water. Other methods can leave a strange smell or taste on the fruit and vegetables and turn out to be no better than tap water.
After years of prototyping and laboratory testing, a groundbreaking combination was discovered:

– Water (H₂O)
– Electrolysis (an electric current)
The combination of these three elements was the secret behind this highly effective, portable cleaner: the AquaPure!
Using only (filtered) tap water and a little table salt (or Celtic sea salt) The AquaPure generates an active solution that effectively removes contaminants from your fruit and vegetables in an environmentally friendly way.
This groundbreaking formula breaks down the molecular structure of the contaminants, converting them into harmless, non-toxic substances. Once the contaminants have been rendered harmless, you can then simply rinse them away.

Laboratory test results
The AquaPure has been proven to remove up to 99.9% of pesticides, bacteria and other harmful substances (on the surface) from your fruit and vegetables. The AquaPure uses ordinary tap water and a small amount of (Celtic) salt to create a powerful cleaning solution that removes pesticides, bacteria and other contaminants. The solution breaks down the harmful substances on your fruit and vegetables and breaks down the molecules, so that they can be easily rinsed off with water.
Electrolysis
Electrolysis is the process in which an electric current is used to bring about a chemical change. An electric current is produced by the movement of electrons or ions.
How does the AquaPure use electrolysis?
The AquaPure electrolyses water (H₂O) that contains some sodium chloride (salt, also known as NaCl).
The reaction is: 2NaCl + 2H₂O → 2NaOH + H₂ + Cl₂ (electrolysis). This means that two useful compounds are produced: chlorine (Cl₂, a strong oxidising agent and a widely used disinfectant) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH).
NaOH and H₂ are produced at the cathode and Cl₂ at the anode. (The two terminals you see when you open the lid of the AquaPure).
Furthermore, sodium hypochlorite (a solution produced by reacting chlorine with a sodium hydroxide solution) is formed as a product of the following reaction:
2NaOH + Cl₂ → NaOCl + H₂O + NaCl
This means that sodium hypochlorite (NaOCI, which is also a strong oxidising agent and disinfectant) is produced.
Both chlorine and sodium hypochlorite attack the pesticide molecules and break them down.
Why does electrolysis remove bacteria and pesticides from produce?
Both Cl₂ and NaOCl are strong oxidising agents that attack bacteria and break down the molecules of the pesticide.
Why is salt necessary – and how does it work?
Salt is sodium chloride. The salt solution contains sodium and chloride ions (Na+ and Cl-), which are necessary for electrical conductivity. As mentioned above, the chloride ions also help to produce chlorine (Cl2), a powerful oxidising agent and disinfectant.
Step 1
Use the micro-USB cable supplied, which features a magnetic connector, to to charge your AquaPure. The LED indicator stops flashing when the device is fully charged. Once fully charged, it can be used for up to 30 cycles before needing to be recharged.
Step 2
Fill a bowl with water at room temperature and add a pinch of salt (1/8 teaspoon is enough), then give it a good stir. Press the button on the side of the appliance and soak it in water for 5 minutes with your fruit and vegetables. Place the AquaPure in the centre of the bowl of water and give the fruit and vegetables a stir a few more times. If you’re using a large bowl of water with plenty of fruit and vegetables, we recommend running through 2 or 3 cycles for the best results.
Step 3
When the blue light goes out, the cycle is complete and the food has been cleaned. Give your fruit and vegetables a quick rinse under the tap before you enjoy your clean, safe and delicious products!

When I received the AquaPure, it came with a lovely handwritten card; where do you find that these days? It comes across as very friendly. And that was confirmed when I contacted them by email, as I did have a question about the AquaPure. They really take their time with you. So, a lovely company.

I prefer to buy organic fruit and veg. That’s not always possible, so I’m really pleased with the Aqua Pure! The taste of (i.e. sprayed) fruit and veg is so much better! No more nasty aftertaste from the pesticides, and it makes me feel good!
