The BOROUX Automatic Filter Primer Pump simplifies the priming of BOROUX Foundation™ Black filter elements and Black Berkey filter elements, among others.
BOROUX Automatic Filter Primer Pump simplifies the prime process of the BOROUX Foundation™ Black elements, Black Berkey elements or BOROUX Proactive™ Fluoride Filters and transforms a tedious task into a quick and effortless 90-second process. On a full battery, this primer pump operates at least 10 prime processes. Prime your filters quickly and efficiently, without the need for a right-sized tap or the risk of splashing water. The filters fit into the primer pump, press a button and voilá... Enjoy clean, clear water from the first use!
This new method of priming is a more consistent way to get a perfectly primed filter every time!
Priming the filters means fully saturating the filters with water before use. This is necessary for the filters to work properly. Both the BOROUX Foundation™ Black elements, Black Berkey elements as the BOROUX Proactive™ Fluoride Filters are made of, among other things, activated carbon, which has tiny pores. Water has to be forced through all the micropores so that all the carbon is wet.
The biggest problem with no or insufficient priming of the filters is slow flow. The filters work best when they are wet. When they are dry, water does not flow well through the micropores. A set of filters typically has a flow rate of about 4 litres per hour. Without proper priming, this can take much longer, if at all. Priming also helps remove any dust or residue from production. This process flushes this away, which solves the problem of cloudy water.
To prime, you can use a Priming Button (a small rubber ring) or the PrimeRite (a blue rubber spout). With these instruments, you can drain the filter element, using a tap. These are supplied as standard with the BOROUX Foundation™ Black elements, Black Berkey elements and BOROUX Proactive™ Fluoride Filters delivered in the box. Should you lose them, they can be reordered separately from us. If priming with the tap does not work, the tap is not suitable or you want to make things easier for yourself, you can use this BOROUX Automatic Filter Primer Pump or the Black Berkey Primer.

Attach one filter in the bottom of the pump. To attach the filter element, remove the wing nut but leave the washer in place. Then screw the filter into the primer pump. If you want to prime the BOROUX Proactive™ Fluoride Filters, first attach the blue priming adapter and blue priming ring, then screw them into the pump. Fill the lower container of your water filter with water. Hook the primer pump with filter element onto the rim of the lower container while the filter is submerged in the water. Make sure the water level is exactly at the water line marked on the pump. Turn on the pump and then press the prime button on top. A countdown timer will start and automatically stop after 90 seconds. Unscrew your filter element once the pump is ready and it is primed!
