Prime Service: We prime the Berkey or BOROUX filter cartridges for you

Prime Service – The first step in setting up a Berkey or BOROUX water filter is to prime the Berkey or BOROUX filter cartridges. It is important that this is done correctly, otherwise it will take a very long time to purify the water. Priming must be carried out before you insert the Berkey or BOROUX elements into the water filter. Priming involves forcing a small amount of water through the element under slight pressure to ensure that the inside of the Berkey or BOROUX filter element becomes wet (removing any air from the element). This allows you to benefit from the full filtration rate of each element. To prime the filter, you can use, for example, a Priming Button or PrimeRite, accessories that allow you to saturate the filter element with water from a tap. These are supplied as standard with Berkey or BOROUX filter elements. On our pages featuring Berkey instructional videos or BOROUX instructional videos you can see how the priming process works.

However, you can also choose to have us do it for you: the Prime Service. Priming is a process that takes a bit of getting to grips with, so it can be a bit tricky. Also, not every tap is suitable for priming. Of course, you can also opt for the BOROUX Automatic Filter Primer Pump or the Black Berkey Primer, these are tools that mean you no longer need a tap to prime the system. However, if you can’t be bothered with all that, you can opt for our Prime Service.
 

Our Prime Service

With the Prime Service, we prime the Black Berkey filter cartridges, BOROUX Foundation™ Black filter elements and/or Fluoride & Arsenic (PF-2) filter cartridges before they are dispatched. If your order includes Fluoride & Arsenic (PF-2) filter cartridges as well as the standard Berkey or BOROUX filter cartridges, you only need to order the Prime Service once, of course. We prime everything in one go for the same price. This also applies, of course, if you have ordered multiple sets of the same filter cartridges.

So we take them out of the packaging, clean them and then prime them. For the Black Berkey and BOROUX Foundation™ Black filter elements, we immediately check whether they pass the red dye test and whether the filtration rate is satisfactory. If everything is in order, we leave them to drain for a short while, then pack them straight away and dispatch your order. When they arrive, you won’t need to prime them again, as they’ll still be moist enough. You will, however, need to rinse them briefly under cold water. After that, you can fit them straight into your water filter!
 

PLEASE NOTE! You cannot order this service if you live in a country other than the Netherlands or Belgium. The delivery time would be too long, meaning there is a high chance that the filters would be too dry again and you would therefore have to prime them all over again.
