Vitakruid Zinc Methionine & Copper 90 capsules – Mineral supplement
Zinc and copper in their most bioavailable forms
Zinc methionine is the only form of zinc that does not bind to phytate, oxalate or tannins. Binding to any of these antinutrients significantly reduces absorption. Furthermore, Vitakruid has added copper in the form of gluconate to this formula. Copper gluconate is the bioavailable copper salt of D-gluconic acid and the most readily absorbed form of copper available.
Copper has been added to ensure the balance
The title may already suggest as much, but in addition to zinc, we have also included copper in the formula for Zinc-Methionine & Copper. After all, balance is the key to the effectiveness of our mineral metabolism. Like on a set of scales, the various elements in our body are constantly being balanced. The minerals we know of have various interrelationships. For example, zinc and copper have what is known as a synergistic effect. This means that the elements have both a stimulating and an inhibitory effect on each other. It is therefore important always to supplement these synergistic elements together, to prevent imbalances.
Zinc is described as the most important trace element
Zinc may well be the most important trace element for the human body. The entire body contains around two to three grams of zinc, the majority of which is found in the large muscles. This essential trace element is rapidly used up in these muscles, which means that zinc stores must also be adequately replenished. The advice is therefore to consume zinc-rich foods every day, yet we seem to be ignoring this seemingly simple advice on a massive scale. This is not deliberate; agricultural developments over the last few decades have simply meant that our fruit and vegetables now contain as much as 60% fewer vitamins and minerals than they did 20 years ago. Furthermore, vegetarians and vegans are at risk of having insufficient zinc levels. After all, plant-based zinc is poorly absorbed by the body compared to animal-based sources of zinc. Zinc supplementation is therefore recommended for a wider group than one might initially assume.
