Usage
How do I transport my system with Coldstream FTO PLUS filters?
When transporting your system, we recommend removing the filters. Let them dry, then roll them up in a terry cloth towel. Next, place them in the stainless steel or plastic housing and make sure they are secure (use more towels if necessary) to prevent them from shifting or breaking.
How do I install the Coldstream FTO PLUS filter elements?
The Coldstream FTO PLUS filter elements are easy to install, use, and clean. Priming is not necessary, and no additional filters are required to remove fluoride. Before installing, simply rinse the outside briefly under cold running water and, if necessary, scrub it lightly with a scouring pad to remove any manufacturing residue.
Installation
Follow the step-by-step guide below:
- 1. Pick up the filter element and place the rubber ring on the stem.
- 2. Insert the stem through a hole in the top container.
- 3. Screw the wing nut onto the bottom of the top housing. When you feel resistance, it’s tight enough. CAUTION! Do not overtighten. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for any other filter elements.
- 4. Seal any remaining holes with plug caps.
- 5. Place the top container on top of the bottom container.
- 6. Fill the top tank with water and let the water run through. We recommend discarding the first two cycles!

Cleaning, Maintenance, and Storage
How do I store my Coldstream FTO PLUS filter cartridges?
Remove the Coldstream FTO PLUS filters from your system and let them air dry. Wrap the filters in a terry cloth towel and store them in a cool, dry place.
When and how do I clean the Coldstream FTO PLUS filter elements?
We recommend cleaning the Coldstream FTO PLUS filter elements once a month, as well as the containers and other parts of your water filter. However, if you notice a change in the taste or odor of the water and/or a slowdown in the flow rate before then, this may indicate that your filters need to be cleaned.
Cleaning
IMPORTANT! DO NOT use soap when cleaning a filter element. Make sure that NO water gets into the filter element’s shaft.
It is important that no water gets into the blue stem of the filter element. So hold the filter element by the base and run it under cold running water for about 2 minutes. While water is continuously flowing over the filter element, gently scrub the white ceramic exterior with a scouring pad. Rinse it thoroughly and set it aside until it is ready to be reinstalled.
Replacement
When should the Coldstream FTO PLUS filter elements be replaced?
Service life: 1,500 liters or 6 months, whichever comes first. Of course, it can be difficult to keep track of the number of liters, so we always recommend simply sticking to the 6-month interval. It doesn’t matter how many Coldstream FTO PLUS filter elements you’re using; they all need to be replaced after 6 months.
If, during those 6 months, you notice a change in the taste or smell of the water and/or a slowdown in the flow rate, this may indicate that your filters need to be cleaned. If, after cleaning, the flow rate does not increase or you still notice the same taste or smell, it is time to replace the filter elements.
