BOROUX Foundation Black filter elements (2 pieces)

BOROUX Foundation Black filter cartridges are compatible with most popular gravity-fed water filter systems, including, amongst others, Berkey, British Berkefeld, ProOne, Phoenix Gravity, Aqua Logic, Monderma, Pure Filters and Newton. The filter cartridges are designed for long-term use and feature Stem Saver technology for added durability during use and cleaning.

These BOROUX filters reduce, amongst other things, more than 99% of chlorine, heavy metals, pharmaceutical contaminants (medicine residues), pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, plastic and industrial contaminants (PFAS), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), microplastics and disinfection by-products. The essential minerals your body needs are retained in the process.

The filters consist, amongst other things, of a special blend of activated carbon. The BOROUX Foundation Black filter elements contain silver, an antimicrobial agent, to prevent micro-organisms from damaging the product itself. These filters are not designed to filter out micro-organisms.
In addition, they are so powerful that they can remove red dyes from water without removing the useful minerals your body needs.
 

Test reports and certification

The BOROUX Foundation Black filters have been tested by an independent laboratory (IAPMO R&T Lab NJ, ISO/IEC 17025) in accordance with NSF/ANSI standards 42, 53 and 401. See all test reports for more details and in doing so, clarity and transparency are paramount.

BOROUX’s water filtration systems and filters are Gold Seal-certified by the Water Quality Association (WQA), the oldest independent certification body in the water filtration industry. Products must meet stringent testing requirements to be certified: industry standards (NSF/ANSI/CAN), annual audits of the manufacturing facility and compliance with the WQA’s certification schemes. Verification and validation through an independent testing process provide the assurance that consumers deserve.

Whether you’re replacing filters in your existing system or embarking on a new journey into water wellbeing, these filters are designed for broad compatibility with gravity-fed water filtration systems.

A BOROUX water filter (BOROUX Legacy or BOROUX Legacy Compact) comes as standard with two original BOROUX Foundation Black filter cartridges. You can, if you wish, upgrade the BOROUX Legacy water filter to four filter cartridges.
 

The box of BOROUX Foundation Black filter elements contains the following items:

● 2x BOROUX Foundation Black filter elements
● 2x Black rubber rings: for between the filter element and the stainless steel container
● 2x Wing nuts: for tightening the filter element
● 1x Priming Button: brown rubber ring for priming the filter elements with the tap
● 1x PrimeRite Universal Primer: blue rubber tap attachment for priming the filter elements
● 1x English-language manual (a Dutch-language manual can be downloaded in our library and is also sent via e-mail after ordering)
 
Preparing for use
The first step is priming the filter elements. It is important that this is done properly, otherwise purifying the water will take a very long time. Should priming with the tap fail, a automatic primer pump or manual primer pump order from us.
 

Maintenance of the BOROUX Foundation Black filter elements

Scrub the BOROUX Foundation Black filters every 3–6 months. Gently scrub the surface of the filters for a few minutes using a scouring pad. Do NOT use soap or cleaning products on the filters. Re-prime the filters and reinstall them according to the instructions.
 

Service life of the BOROUX Foundation Black filters

The BOROUX Foundation Black filters are designed for long-term use. However, the actual service life of the filters depends on various factors, such as:
● water quality;
● the contaminants present and their concentrations;
● daily water consumption;
● the substances you specifically want to filter out.

BOROUX provides a general replacement recommendation, based on a broad range of users and water qualities. In practice, the optimal replacement interval may vary from user to user.

Based on our experience with Dutch tap water, we recommend replacing the filters after, assuming average usage and the use of tap water, maximum three years. This is a practical guideline and not a fixed replacement period.

If you use water with higher concentrations of certain contaminants (for example, water from other sources), if your water consumption is high, or if you wish to ensure maximum protection against specific substances, it is advisable to replace the filters sooner.

If you want to determine exactly when replacement is needed, only regular analysis of the filtered water will provide a definitive answer.
