PLEASE NOTE! Do not overtighten the wing nuts. This is not possible, as there is a rubber ring on the other side of the hole. This naturally allows for some play because it is flexible. If you continue to tighten it, the flexibility will eventually be exhausted and too much tension will be placed on the wing nut. This could damage the groove in the wing nut. Our advice is therefore simply to tighten it until it feels ‘secure’ (you’ll feel resistance); that’s sufficient.

As the Berkey needs to be cleaned regularly, the wing nuts lose their grip and you end up overtightening them. Berkey really ought to come up with a different system for this. The new nuts work perfectly again
