How long does it take for the water to flow from the upper tank to the lower tank?

The top tray of your Berkey water filter should be completely flushed (a small layer will remain) in about 2 hours. The better the priming succeeded, the faster the flow rate will be. So if it takes longer than 2 hours, we recommend priming again. When priming for the first time, the priming is not expected to have been successful and there is still too much air in the Black Berkey filter elements. In case of already longer use, this is a sign to prime again.

Is it your first time using the Berkey water filter? Then the following is equally important:
- the filtration rate will increase somewhat in the first 12 to 24 hours.
