First, a word about children. Should they also take magnesium supplements? Children who do a lot of sport can benefit from taking magnesium to aid their recovery. Magnesium can also help with fatigue, whether unrelated to sport or during recovery from illness or injury.

Magnesium is a natural mineral and plays a key regulatory role in our bodies. Our body constantly uses magnesium and does not store it. It uses what it needs, and any excess is excreted via the kidneys or through perspiration. This also means that it is difficult to consume too much, but we can experience symptoms due to a deficiency.

Magnesium has a positive effect on the functioning of the nervous system and contributes to energy metabolism. It also helps to reduce tiredness. Furthermore, it supports brain and nerve functions involved in concentration, learning ability, memory and reasoning. Magnesium is beneficial for maintaining a healthy mental balance.

What makes this product special is that it contains magnesium in the form of magnesium bisglycinate. In this form, each magnesium particle is bound (chelated) to two molecules of the amino acid glycine, which ensures excellent bioavailability. Amino acid-chelated magnesium has a higher bioavailability than other forms of magnesium, such as magnesium oxide (which has an absorption rate of only 4%). The reason for this is that the bond between magnesium and the amino acid is so strong within a chelate that it does not break down under the influence of stomach acid, unlike other magnesium compounds. The advantage of this is that magnesium bisglycinate, as an amino acid, reaches the small intestine where it is absorbed via amino acid receptors.

Taurine (an amino acid) and vitamin B6 (pyridoxal-5-phosphate) have been added to the powder. These substances have a synergistic effect on magnesium. They promote the uptake of this mineral into the cells and thereby support the effectiveness of magnesium. Vitamin B6 also has a positive effect on the nervous system.

Magnesium bisglycinate is a compound formed from magnesium and glycine. Glycine is an amino acid, and amino acids are absorbed very effectively in the intestines via specific transport proteins. Because magnesium is bound to an amino acid, it is, as it were, transported into the body along with the glycine. This explains its high bioavailability and, consequently, its efficacy.
